Why do people pretend they aren't sleeping? Even if it's early in the morning and normal people should be sleeping, a lot of people (especially my Dad) always pretend as though they've been awake for ages; that there is no sleepiness or grogginess in their voices; and that's it's the most normal thing to be wide awake and answering the phone.
Is sleeping bad? And these people don't want to be considered lazy or something?
If I'm calling early or late, I usually apologize at the very start, "sorry if I woke you...." I just get it out of the way. If I'm calling my Dad in the afternoon, about 30% of the time he sounds a little or a lot sleepy. I don't say anything. He's 70-plus and I only wish I could nap in the afternoon! I'm envious.
